Why is it that people in UK, USA Don’t want to speak to call centre based in India?
My experience in working for a international call centre based in India where Brits calling from Different parts of the UK with different accent. People from North UK, Cockney-Eastenders, Scottish. Which is even hard for a person who is born and bred in London to understand their accent.
So a non english person who’s got a neutral accent and has never been to any of these country still understands them and responds to their queries is really appreciating. But still the Brits and Americans put them down by saying learn to speak English. Or can I speak to someone from UK or USA, Or something like “your stealing my job, I don’t want to deal with a person from a third world country”. Now these kind of statements are very Common and it makes Indians think is this how the first world people think? We always knew them other way around.
Firstly people in UK/USA think jobs have been outsourced to India because of cheap labour but the kind of salary Call centers pay in India is a very decent amount in India starting from 15000 to 35000 INR for normal representative. Now that kind of amount is only paid to a highly skilled Person in India like Engineers, Doctors etc who are employed not considering self employed Doctors who rip people off their money.
And Coming over to skills. The companies who have outsourced the jobs in India are looking for revenue they are profit making companies and not a charitable company. Its obvious they want to set up their firm in India because people are ready to work overtime and On weekends with quality but people in those countries don’t want to work weekends.
So where’s more profit? Setting up business in those countries where taxes are high and paying high wages to people who are not flexible, or place where people are more cooperating. This eventually leads the job to move on to a place where it can find sources and competent people ready to work day and night that will bring more revenue to the company and makes its way to enter different potential market in the world. But Brits judge Indians on basis of their accent that means, “If you don’t sound like us. You’re dumb and can’t help us.” So it can also be vice versa Indians can think Brits and Americans are not that smart because they cant speak more than one language and in India every Indian speaks minimum of 3 languages so whose smart?
And racism against Indians I would say that most of the time racist comments or ignorant statements come from every fourth person, which ruins the day. But its sad to hear it from an Indian origin person living in USA/UK who pose to be a white person. Now this shows how ignorant these people are. Most of the Indians living abroad migrated from small town
Or small villages in India where they did not have much sources and they tell their children what was their experience when they lived in India. But these call centre are based in Big cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune and people working are the localities who have lived in these places all their life. And have always been exposed to the modern culture and are aware of the western culture and background.
They aren’t like that normal shopkeeper the Americans and Brits see everyday who are shallow with a loud mouth and speak in broken English and think they own the whole country if they own couple of shops. And call Indians as illiterates.
The major companies that are based in India are HSBC,J P Morgan, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, Air Canada,Sitel, Accenture,Dell,Microsoft,3G,Orange,Vodafone,
Barclays, Capital One, etc.
And the interiors of these call centres are very comfortable and equivalent to the infrastructures made in USA and better than offices in UK.
